The First Annual Member's Show, "Beginnings", consisted of 88 entries from 32 Society Members.

Our first show truly recognized the international community of artists that make up the Oil Pastel Society and the variety of styles and subjects presented the versatility of the oil pastel medium to the maximum.

To give all of you a glimpse into the making of this show, let me begin with the artists who diligently applied their talent and creative abilities into producing the paintings entered.

Please scroll down for the link to the Oil Pastel Gallery showcasing the Award winners! To conserve and best utilize our web space, entries have been removed from the 2005 Show. Please check out all entries in our 2006 and 2007 Show!!

May 15th, 2005, marked the deadline for submissions and June 15th, 2005, marked not only the opening date for "Beginnings" but the first Society Show to be presented online for the oil pastel medium! Without the dedication and participation of all the members of the Society, this event would not have been possible. The name "Beginnings" was chosen to represent our inception as a Society, our first online Members' Show, and our first year of promoting oil pastels as a fine art medium.

Meet Terry Ludwig, our Awards Judge for "Beginnings"

About the artist...
Terry Ludwig received his formal art education under William Mosby and Joseph Vanden Broucke at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. His work has been featured in galleries throughout the Rocky Mountain Region and the Southwest and hangs in many private collections. His work focuses on "life", he says. "I enjoy live models and scenes that capture life."

"I enjoy capturing a spirit in my art, whether it is a personality, a feeling inspired by nature or even a humorous experience. It's true of the way I relate to people, too. I'm spirited and enjoy other people's unique natures."

Terry has taught in government programs and demonstrated his realistic style at the Colorado Institute of Art and the Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. He is currently teaching pastel portraiture and landscape as well as "How To Make Pastels." A charter member of the Art Student's League of Denver, he continues to actively participate in the league's activities and training programs.

After years of research and experimentation, pastelist Terry Ludwig has developed a comprehensive process for hand making an unprecedented array of exceptionally soft pastels. You can find more information about Terry, his workshops, exceptional soft pastels, and artwork on his site at http://www.terryludwig.com.
