Andrea Faundez

My paintings, my life, what can I say. I love what I do and I strongly feel my oil pastels when I use them. The eyes, wonderful means of expression of feelings: happiness, pain, uncertainty, hope.   To express feelings is what I look for in each of my portraits, Indians, wildlife (deer , horses, flowers, etc).  Sometimes they're the feelings of whom I'm painting and sometimes my own.

I was born and raised in Chile, land of lakes and volcanoes, narrow strip of land protected by the Pacific Ocean on one side and the Andes Mountains on the other.

In 1987 I entered the School of Arts at the University of Concepcion in Chile, where I graduated with a BA in Education, major in Arts. My last year of school was decisive for me, as to achieve through art more than just an art piece but a means of communication, a way of expression. This is why I worked on trying and proving that art is highly important in Special Education.

Color, lines, shapes, texture, all are concepts that mean a lot to me, they are the basics of my paintings.

Even though I didn't work with oil pastels at school, in 1992, recently graduated, I painted my first oil pastel without even knowing how to use them, they just seemed natural as if I had known them all my life.  Indians and horses, my inspiration.

Having learned the features of color and its richness, I have been able to achieve realistic colors with which I can give life and feel emotions.

Living in Chile I started different art studios, specially in public schools which didn't have many resources.

In December of 2001 I moved to Osborne, Kansas, where I've been able to grow more professionally and to discover the wonders of nature.  I don't paint only portraits of Indians and others now but also wildlife, animals, deer, horses, birds, flowers, roses, etc..

I have enjoyed teaching art to children and adults for 13 years.
