Eileen Bosic
Eileen currently enjoys creating oil pastel paintings in
the northern part of Illinois, just west of Chicago in DeKalb. Originally from
Cleveland, Ohio where her passion for art began as a child, she would take two
buses to reach the Cleveland Institute of Art during the summer months to
study.
Her passion for art continues today. She has studied at
Kishwaukee College, Northern Illinois University and currently is a member of
the Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles Illinois, where she regularly
paints with a group of oil pastel painters who study with OPS Signature member,
George Shipperley.
Before she found oil pastels, Eileen began painting with
oil paint and later transitioned to acrylic paint. But because oil pastels have
given her the freedom and a creative spirit that she has never experienced
before with other painting mediums, she is now painting exclusively in oil
pastel, and for the last four years has enjoyed the supportive and encouraging
class environment needed to explore such a forgiving, exciting and challenging
medium.
Most of Eileen’s paintings are the subjects of landscape
and still life, and often include barns that she finds in and around the DeKalb
area. Her unique color interpretations are developed in the studio from the use
of Holbein and Sennelier oil pastels, used in conjunction with Winsor Newton
Liquin to create a deep colored underpainting which is then developed with many
layers of oil pastel from dark to light.
The personal statement evolves from Eileen’s selection of
an arbitrary color palette, and the use of scraping techniques in order to
create implied forms and sensuous textures. Finally, Eileen often uses the side
of a lighter oil pastel stick to apply a light delicate skimming of color
designed to create a harmonious blending of all the elements.
To complete and
protect the delicate surface of the painting, she ensures the painting is matted
and framed with museum quality materials and Eileen often enjoys exhibiting and
selling many of her completed paintings.
