Ed Brothers
Ed has a doctorate in
Oceanography/Marine Biology with a specialty in Ichthyology. His professional
experience has included university instruction and research, consulting,
teaching technical and adult field courses, and industrial failure
analysis. While always interested in art, Ed's formal art education ended in
college. With the exception of extensive photographic activity, above and below
the water's surface, Ed produced essentially no art for the succeeding thirty
plus years. Some teenage experience with oil pastels resulted in only a few
paintings, but apparently planted a long dormant seed. With a little more time
to indulge in artistic pursuits, Ed resumed working with oil pastels in the
spring of 2006. Most of his subject matter centers around a long held passion
for fly fishing. Work and chasing fish has resulted in frequent travels to
far flung locations and Ed records his experiences with photography. These
photos are the basis for paintings which attempt to preserve fishing and travel
adventures in images which have personal meaning in addition to striking
composition, lighting, etc. Ed resides in the Finger Lakes region of New York
State and is grateful for the support and encouragement from his wife and
daughters.
