I have had the good fortune of being
inspired and supported by three creative passions in my
life. My love of painting, building and gourmet cooking
all began and were developed during my early years in
Boston.
The highlight of my formal art
training was my studies with the Great American
Painter Philip Hicken, with whom I learned to work in
acrylics. This was a path I pursued for the next
twenty-three years.
As midlife approached, I craved an
artistic experience with a more direct access to line,
and was drawn to oil pastels whose crayon shape
offered me freeing possibilities. I am self-taught in
oil pastel, a medium which I have used exclusively for
twenty-five years.
This shift in my approach to painting
coincided with my move to rural Maine. At the age of
fifty, I built myself a solar-powered house nestled in
the woods of the eastern coast.
During this time, my passion for food
provided me with financial stability and an additional
creative outlet. For fifteen years, The Artist's Cafe
featured casual fine dining, as well as exhibit space
for my paintings on the restaurant walls. As owner
and chef, I had the personal gratification of offering
my customers two forms of creative expression
simultaneously. Closing the restaurant each winter
allowed me time to retreat to my studio to paint and
rejuvenate.
A year ago, I closed the cafe
permanently to pursue painting full time. Since then,
my work has been displayed in numerous venues. I have
been accepted to The Eastport Gallery, a cooperative
gallery in Eastport, Maine. They have featured my
paintings in the following group exhibitions:
