About the Artist
I have been an artist for as long as I can
remember—all the way back to my pre-school days, painting the side of my Dad’s
car with house paint, the walls with my Mom’s potting soil, and the blank page
inside the cover of every encyclopedia in the set! In high school, I was voted
“Best Artist” and received a fine art scholarship. I went on to study painting
and drawing at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. A short-lived dream,
I completed only my freshman year, then married and started my family shortly
after.
The next three decades were spent raising my three children, returning to school
to pursue a career in Graphic Design, and eventually becoming the art director
of a national magazine leaving little-to-no time for painting. After switching
to a part-time position as a stylist, I finally found the time to reclaim my
passion for art. In 2010, I enrolled in Carol Zack’s “Paint In Pastel” class at
The Fine Line Creative Arts Center in St. Charles, IL and immediately fell in
love with the medium.
Submerging myself into oil pastels, I am exploring their vibrant colors, rich
tones, buttery texture and paint-like quality. I particularly love the
“waffling” that the various art papers offer as well as the many layers I can
apply to create deep shadows and bright highlights. As an avid gardener, I draw
inspiration from my love of nature. I am passionate about painting portraits of
animals and children, and scenes of places I have traveled to. I am looking
forward to further developing my skills as I continue to grow as an artist.
