I began my career in the 80’s as a freelance artist in London, Ontario, Canada, receiving commissions for drawings & paintings in pen & ink, watercolour and acrylic.  I have continued this work p/t while developing as a fine artist.

I came to use oil pastels by way of soft pastels, which I had utilized on my travels abroad because of their portability and ease of use.  However, I disliked their dusty quality and appearance, and wanted a medium which had their practical advantages but with colours which were more vivid and rich.  My aim was to capture the gorgeous sea hues in the patterns formed on the surface of tropical coastal waters, and oil pastels fit the bill.   I have tried oil paints but find them cumbersome and time-consuming so I prefer the freedom of oil pastels – they are now my favourite medium. 

After having some of my pastel paintings for rental at Museum London I was asked by one of its members if I would give a workshop on my technique.  I did so and will also give one this coming year.  I primarily draw/paint water landscapes in a style which is impressionistic, hoping to translate to the viewer the feeling which I experienced when first coming upon these lovely light-filled images.
