The opportunity to judge "Inspirations - the 2011 Oil Pastel Society Member's Only Show" was a gratifying and challenging experience. In both categories of the competition I was impressed with the range of subjects and techniques employed. There is no doubt that there is an inherent disadvantage in not being able to see the original works, but I was careful to note the size and and kind of support used in interpreting each of the digital images.

As always, not everyone can take home an award, but all the participating artists should be pleased by the strong competition provided by this year's entries. I did note that both Realistic and Impressionistic style dominated the majority of entries, and while this is not a negative situation, I would hope that future shows might attract additional Abstract/Nonobjective subjects. In my experience as a college art faculty and in my own use of the medium, I have found that it is a wonderfully powerful tool for bold Expressionist techniques as well.

Once again, my thanks for the pleasure of taking part in this year's competition and the best of luck for all future events. Thanks also to Sennelier for their ongoing support of your organization.

It's the first exhibit of her abstract art in Washington, DC.
The paintings have already been exhibited and well received by public in London , Paris, Moscow and Khanty-Mansiysk.

Artists who join the Society after the opening of the Member Show each year are automatically paid in full for the next year's membership. Membership renewals are on an annual basis, January 1 thru December 31.
