"As an artist, I am influenced as much by certain writers–––especially George MacDonald and C.S. Lewis–– as I am by great visual artists because they help me understand the deeper purpose of the arts. Lewis speaks of nature being “only the first sketch” of a greater glory. It is that greater glory that I see in the ordinary world around me and that is what I hope to communicate to the viewer."

Sakura of America is already hard at work promoting and organizing the 2011 Cray-Pas Wonderful, Colorful World Contest. The contest brochures have been printed, and on August 9, 2010 they will be mailed to over 14,000 teachers throughout the US and Canada. The Oil Pastel Society was formed on September 1, 2004, as a non-profit organization, to promote the knowledge and understanding of oil pastel as a fine art medium and to expand the awareness of oil pastel to other artists, galleries, the media, and the general public.

An Artist Gallery and Members Only Show...

are special features offered free to all members whose dues are up-to-date. By clicking on the OPS Members link at the top right of this page, you will find our listing of artist members. To view each gallery, simply click on the name of an artist.

Our Annual Members Only Show is a highlight of the year with award winners selected by an independent judge, and awarded on the opening of the show. Enjoy the 2007 Show, Emerging, the 2006 Show, Versatility, in its entirety, or view the Award Winners from the 2005 Show, Beginnings, by choosing either link to the left!

Members who join the Society from October 1 thru December 31st of each year are automatically paid in full for the next year's membership.
