Janet DeLonga

A self-taught artist, I work in oil pastels, watercolor, soft pastels, pen and ink and oils.  In 1988 the florist that I frequented to purchase flowers for paintings offered me the opportunity to hang (and sell!) my work in her shop.  I think that gave me the nudge to get out of the closet and go find other artists.  I started entering competitions and joining local art associations.  Since then, I’ve been showing and selling my work.  I’ve had many one-woman shows, my work in juried shows and received numerous awards in competitions.

I spend time first trying to figure out what medium would best reflect the subject/mood I’m trying to portray and then dig in.  Sometimes I figure wrong and start again.  Sometimes they evolve into their own in spite of me.  It’s the whole process of contemplation (subject matter, medium, composition), exploration (trying new techniques, surfaces, products) frustration (when you don’t think you’re going to pull it off) and satisfaction if and/or when you do!
