Janet Fons

ABOUT MY INSPIRATION
My colorful landscapes depict water, mountains and places with spectacular scenery taken from my travels and from the nearby Rocky Mountains. My oil pastel paintings are loose and textural, created with a broken color stroke technique inspired by the impressionists.

The palette of the impressionists opened up new vistas and brightened the work of those participants. Contemporary oil paints of those early palettes included a rainbow of hues: cadmium yellows and reds, cobalt and cerulean blues, permanent green and scarlet. The important issue was, and is, to use real pigment colors whenever possible, rather than blends.

My artwork is inspired by the French and American impressionists, whose passion for color and light revolutionized the art world's perception of reality.

BIOGRAPHY
I worked as a graphic designer and art director for numerous advertising agencies in the Denver area for over 20 years. In the eighties, I created large, airbrushed abstract landscapes using transparent dyes.

I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in printmaking from Michigan State University in 1974 where I majored in printmaking, working primarily in serigraphy, etching and lithography. I am a native of Detroit, Michigan.
