“The beauty of
the natural environment – even in the harshest conditions – is one of life’s
deep mysteries. That beauty provides us with an opportunity for quiet
reflection – something that is too often overlooked as we pursue the many
activities in our busy lives. In my paintings, my goal is to capture that
beauty, that mystery and that deep well of reflection that refreshes the spirit.
Although I
work in a realistic style, I am not very concerned with capturing a literal
translation of what I see. Rather, I want to communicate the feel of the
place. The play of the sun’s last rays across a meadow, the sound of wind
rustling the grass, the contrasting texture of prickly pines in tall silky grass
– these sense memories are all actors in the process of creating a painting.
And, by leaving some things left unsaid, I invite you to bring your own thoughts
and response to the painting.”
