Lisa Loudermilk
I
create moodscapes to allow the viewer a moment of seclusion from our complicated
human-made world. Rather than just rendering another pretty landscape, I
abstract imagined places into more emotive and iconic ideas to emphasize
Nature’s vitality, its tranquility, and our overlooked ability to harmonize with
it.
Primarily I compose in oil pastel on archival surfaces. I incorporate subtle
and germane texture processes such as sgrafitto and embossing. My unique
approach is that I often work in a painterly fashion, using the broad side of
the oil pastel to create large sweeps of color. At this point, I use oil pastel
solely on the basis of not wanting to wait for paint to dry. Each painting is a
wonderful little story, and I can’t wait to see how it unfolds.
I am a
primitivist, or as close as one can be without intentionally rendering work that
excludes additional skills attained by experience and research. This intuitive
experiment began in 2002 just as an escape from over-civilization. Since, I’ve
participated in over fifty juried art festivals and have received awards at
Cincinnati Summerfair, Indianapolis Broad Ripple Art Fair, and Midwest Salute
to the Masters.
