Louise Mellon

I come from a family of artists and received much encouragement to create and see differently. I have exhibited and sold work since 1970, but my latest galleries and shows have been in Augusta, GA at the Gallery On The Row, a one man show at The Hitchcock Healthcare Center in Aiken, SC, Skyline Farm show and sale in Portland, ME, the Aiken Center for the Arts Sporting Art Shows and sales (three times), Aiken Historical Society show and sale, the Byrne Gallery in Middleburg, VA, prizes won at the Aiken Artists’ Guild show held at the University of South Carolina Aiken, commissions in progress for clients in Canada and the US, a book of my humorous paintings due out next year, and illustrations for two children’s books in progress. I donate art works freely to charitable benefits, the next one in Boston, MA to aid the Ocular Immunology and Uveitis Foundation. I continue my education by attending classes at the University of South Carolina, and participate in 5-6 workshops a year around the country to hone my skills and stay fresh. My next workshop is with Elin Pendleton, and then with Bob Burridge and Mary Ann Beckwith. I paint from home, but I have a gallery of my own in the Croft Building in downtown Aiken. My next one-man show will be in April at the State House in Columbia, SC.

I was on the board of the National Gallery of Art, and since moving to SC, am now on the board of the Aiken Center of the Arts and am responsible for bringing in notable presenters for workshops by collage artist Jonathan Talbot, and the American Academy of Equine Art, among others who have accepted but not presented yet. I volunteer as much as possible to promote and financially support the arts wherever I can. I am currently helping an up and coming Australian, graffiti artist get a show in New York City. I have been asked to donate very large prints of my humorous works to the new Child Advocacy Center in Aiken as my pieces are colorful and cheerful. I enjoy teaching children and have done so many times, even as a young person myself, for the Head Start programs.

Basically, I live and breathe the arts. I have been extremely blessed to have traveled in this country and internationally and to have had the opportunity to appreciate, and be influenced by, some of the finest art in the world.
