About the Artist

 

Helen McLuckie is a self-taught carver/sculptor of wood for 22+ years. In 2006, she was introduced to other medias and has been hooked ever since. With much encouragement and support from her husband, she has competed in shows and has received numerous awards and accolades for her carvings and art. One of special note: In 1993 at the Artistry in Wood Show at the Botanical Gardens, Glencoe, IL, Helen received: 1st. Best of Show, 1st. Stylized/Abstract, 1st. In Natural Wood and 1st. for Exhibitor's Award. Two records of note were broken at the show. It was a 1st. for a natural wood carving to win Best of Show and a 1st. for a Woman to win Best of Show. Since 2006, Helen has taken various classes and multiple workshops that have been offered in her area. In 2009 & 2010 she studied under Carolyn Freese, a retired H.S. Art Teacher.
 
Helen is a past member of: Will County Wood Chislers, IL Valley Carvers, Kendall Art Guild & Plainfield Art League. At present, she is a member of: Plein Air Painters of Chicago, SW, and Naperville Art League. She presently exhibits at the Olde Courthouse Gallery in Yorkville, IL, and Naperville Art Gallery in Naperville, IL, plus various other galleries and shows throughout the year
