With heightened airport security, airlines are much more restrictive on products they allow on planes. I have heard that some oil paint artists had oil paints confiscated. Since I had a trip planned that I wanted to bring my oil pastels on, I was curious whether air travel with oil pastels would also be affected. So I went to the experts, oil pastel artists who have traveled with their oil pastels. After reading many positive responses from members, I took some OPs with me on my trip. I am happy to report that I too had a positive experience. Our members have gone through a lot of airports around the world. Read about some of their experiences yourself. Letter to the Editor Thank you Ann: I got into oil pastel late in the fall of 2003. Bought Elliot's book and subscribed to the Pastel Journal. Bought all the old issues with articles on oil pastel. I renewed my subscription for two years and there was not another OP article after that. How ever they did list the Society e-mail address. After reading two old newsletters joined the Society in November last year. North Light Book Club lists no other titles on OP. Amazon lists a Hard Cover used Title starting at about seventy dollars, but I am not about to spend that amount on a pig in poke. Now to the reason for the thank you. I like working on stretched canvas, but don’t think it would look right to hang it behind glass. Tried some spray varnish on a paper support painting but did not like the results. Read where some OP were made with mineral oils and reasoned that acrylic might work as a light dust and scuff seal. It worked with some of the paint on a old painting in which I had used more than one of the seven brands I have. Have completed three paintings using only one brand of OP with (three or four) light coats of acrylic gloss media with luck. To bad I didn't read the July newsletter before as it may have saved some timed attempts on my part. So Thank You Again for the last newsletter.
