Rita Naras Kreitz
Rita Naras Kreitz was born in England, raised in Belleville, Ontario, and
settled down in Toronto in 1970, when she arrived there to attend the University
of Toronto. Rita started to draw and paint at an early age, inspired by her love
of nature and animals.
At the University of Toronto, Rita studied Fine Art and Archaeology and
graduated in 1974. Later she enrolled in George Brown College, in Toronto, to
study commercial art, where Rita focused on basic design, drawing and other
fundamentals. Above all, she realized that her first love was drawing and
detail, so she switched from painting and concentrated on drawing - at first
with pen and ink, then Prismacolor pencils, and now with a mixed media technique
of oil pastel and coloured pencil.
Earlier work was executed entirely in coloured pencil. Now Rita is using a
technique in which 90% of the work is completed in oil pastel and detail is
sharpened and enhanced by coloured pencil. Rita's style has remained consistent
over the years, in that the aim is for a classical, realistic representation.
Choice of subject matter is varied and ranges from the monumental to the small
and intimate.
Rita was a former president and editor of the Canadian Wildlife and Animal
Art Group. She has exhibited for several years each at the Toronto Outdoor Art
Exhibition and the Royal Winter Fair, as well as participating in numerous art
shows and fairs, frequently donating works of art to charity auctions.
Her work has been featured
in numerous exhibitions, and can be found in collections across North America
and Europe.
