Richard Levine

I have a BS degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University.  My first art teacher was my father who was a commercial artist and fine art painter.  I have also studied oil painting at the Westchester Art Workshop for four years and been taught by Alan Turner and Andrew Lattimore.  In my other disciplines:  photography, watercolor, acrylic and oil pastel, I am largely self-taught.

It is both the immediacy and brilliance of oil pastel that captivates me.  I love how it
blends and also how it reacts when diluted on the sheet with turpentine.  After many years working in oil and often spending two months on a painting and then waiting one
year before varnishing, it is liberating to be able to work in oil pastel;  ideas seem to flow more easily from my brain to my hand to my paper.
