Ricardo Maldonado

I started painting with watercolors as a child, following my father’s own teaching and abilities. By the time I was a teenager I had already discovered the crayons for kids and found that they opened a new world of possibilities for me. Unfortunately, the student and professional duties that followed later forced me to put them aside for some time.

Now, many years later, I had the pleasure to start painting again using real oil pastels (I use Sennelier). I particularly enjoy using oil pastels because of their versatility and vibrant colors. Although I have never had formal art education, I have spent time observing the works and reading about many great painters.

I have been showing some of my work in collective annual exhibits at Harvard University (four times since 2004).

For me, the act of painting is always a great pleasure. It is a pleasure not only to finish a piece but also to be able to create something enjoyable to the eyes with some paint and paper or canvas. It is even more exciting when others find beauty in what I do. I try to paint with different media and different techniques. Although I am always tempted to stay with a given subject, style, or media, I want to continue in the process of learning, experimenting, and exploring.
