Rachel Thern was born in Philadelphia in 1975, but grew up on Long Island, New York. She studied for two years at the Maryland Institute College of Art and then completed a Bachelors in Fine Arts at the
State University of New York, University at Buffalo where she also received a Bachelors in Psychology and a Master?s Degree in Library and Information Science. She has traveled to China and spent time
living in San Diego, California. She currently works as a librarian in Baltimore, Maryland.
