Robin Valenzuela

As a product of a photographer father, a court reporter mother, and a graphic artist brother, it was impossible to grow up without creativity.  I was always exposed to art, music, television, magazines and .....the independence to "wonder" and "play!"  I loved it as a kid and I still enjoy viewing life and catching the most incredible images....often the most simple that nature can produce.

As an emerging artist, much of my inspiration comes from the world around us.  My work often involves nature, such as food, flora and creatures, but I am currently expanding into landscape issues and structures.  I enjoy taking the object of choice and turning around the colors on the surface to create colorful pieces of art.  Oil pastels have become my favorite medium and I work mostly on Ampersand Pastelbord.....occasionally, on pastel paper.  The Pastelbord has a fine tooth to it and allows moving and layering the colors to be very involved.

Although I have taken various art classes (drawing, painting, clay) throughout my life, I am mostly self-taught.  I am currently employed with a printing company as the graphic layout designer.  I also have an education in apparel design.  I have shown works at Garden City Community College, Art in the Park, and The Arts Center on Main, (all in Garden City, KS).  I am a member of The Southwest Arts and Humanities Council in Garden City, KS and a new member of the Oil Pastel Society.  My works are displayed in private collections in Portland, OR; Wichita, KS; Lawrence, KS; Southwest Kansas; Kansas City; Phoenix and Tucson, AZ.
